trans: Yamashita Tatsurō - Merry-Go-Round
this is probably the limit of that "80s" sound that i can handle. too many generic yamaha sounds in that era for my liking. this one kinda sounds like something off Change's Miracles; perhaps it's the pad sounds. kinda reminds me of Grandlife too.
turns out if you slow this down and stir in a fuck tonne of compression (metric, not imperial), you end up with a chillwave track by マクロスMACROSS 82-99.
also, Yamashita's Ride on Time album is pretty ace too, though more acoustic guitar jazzy stuff, compared to this 80s cheese.
i will leave the sun for the rain.
two guys from brisbane doing some jazzy thing that reminds me a little bit of ol' laidback crazy penis.
maybe i'll post something more energetic when i'm not recovering from this mysterious NYE cold.
motor city, motherfucker
yeah yeah, i know. it's the single, and it's the one with the floating points signature fingers on the rhodes written all over it. and you've probably heard it already.
but after playing it a lot yesterday, i'm really digging it. this came off listening to it a couple weeks ago and thinking it was just 'okay' -- it's definitely a grower. i don't get the video clip, though..
i also really liked Do Better off the new album. it sounds like it would be right at home in a james bond soundtrack (perhaps it's the drumming and big brass hook).
night or day? you decide.
trying to spend new years day productively, i've also (attempted to) tidy up this site, and add a few features here and there. let me know if i broke anything.
